Mini-Break to Brighton

This week me and my husband decided to embark on a mini adventure. After thinking of where we could go we settled on Brighton as we had both never been.

Brighton is a 3 hour trip from our house, however due to Craig needing excessive toilet breaks it ended up taking us 4 hours! Defiantly numb bottom time.

We decided to stay at the UMI Brighton, due to a special offer and it being right on the sea front. After arriving just after 2 they very kindly let us check in early. When I entered the hotel room initially I was disappointed as it was so small and had a view of a stairwell, however it was immaculately clean and staff were very friendly. If you are looking for a hotel in Brighton on a very small budget I would reccomend it.

After this we headed down to the beautiful, sprawling pebble beach. It was nice to have a bit of chill time with each other, although the weather was not at its best it was warm enough to sit for an hour with a thin cardi on. During this time we got familiar with a seagull  and played throw the stone. After this we headed onto the pier and spent some time on the 2p machines. There is something about 2p machines that makes me feel all nostalgic.

We then headed to the impressive Royal Pavilion and for a stroll around the lanes. I was so impressed by the wide variety of independent shops. It was so refreshing from the usual carbon copy high streets you see in city after city!

After a quick nap we headed out for a lovely romantic dinner at Donatello's which is a lovely independent resturant. It was so nice to take time out, have a chat and share a nice bottle of wine. The food was exceptional and the resturant provided a lovely atmosphere, after that we headed to a bar for some cheeky cocktails. It was decorated with the most beautiful fairy lights.

When we woke up the next morning we headed out for breakfast at The Creperie which was decorated with the most thoughtful decorations and little touches. My fresh orange juice and lemon crepe was so tasty. After another wander we went for a late lunch at The Brighton Marina.

If anyone is considering a mini break I would reccomend Brighton. It is such a nice place with lots to do and see and after our first visit we will defiantly be returning sometime. It was also lovely to take some time away from our laptops, time from our mobiles and spend some time enjoying each other's company. Spending time and making memories with the ones you love makes you realise what life is really about.

What is your favourite memory? What is your favourite place to visit?

Help I'm a perfectionist...

So today I had an epiphany... I am a serial perfectionist.

Me and the hubs have been planning a mini break for the last few weeks. We have been so busy recently that we thought it is time to get away and leave the daily strain behind us. We have also just had a new car so wanted to give it a good run on the motorway.

I am a last minute girl. I have always left everything till the last minute; I spent the week before my wedding running around like a headless chicken. So today I sat down to book our last minute break and five hours later nothing had been booked... 5 hours staring at a computer screen and I still had not booked our break. I understand that is ridiculous, but I just couldn't find the perfect place.

Where should we go? No that is too far. I've been there before. Nope too close and this continued for a long time.

Where should we stay? Too expensive. Too cheap. Bad trip advisor views. Not a good enough deal.

Where should we book for dinner?

And this continued for hours and resulted in a few small arguments.

After some time for thought I came to the conclusion I am a perfectionist. I have always given 100% to anything I have put my mind to! Never giving up until it was absolutely perfect. When I was at school I would rather have got in trouble for not handing in any work than hand in work that was substandard. If I book a holiday I spend days searching for a perfect place, and usually end up at the first place I looked at. When I bake cakes I throw away batch after batch until I get perfect cakes.

Now I have realised this serial personality downfall I am going to make attempts to overcome this. I need to remember that life is what you make of it, you need to take what your given and make it your own kind of perfect. Why waste your life thinking of how I can make this better? You just need to get out there and do it.

So how do you think I overcome my mini-break booking drama... I walked away from my laptop and told Craig to book 'anything', and that's what he did. So I'm going to make the most of my Brighton mini-break. So what if the hotel isn't the best it could possibly be, we will make it perfect.

What is your personality downfall? What do you wish you could be better at? How are you working to overcome this? Should I just accept I'm a perfectionist and get over it?

You will find out about my mini break in my next post.

Easter Monday

Today is not just any Monday, today is my favourite of all Mondays. Today is a Bank Holiday Monday. It is not just any Bank Holiday Monday, today is a Bank Holiday that my husband, Craig, is off work! Wooooo.

Now this morning did not start out the way I hoped for as my hubby woke up with the worlds most stinking hangover due to a little gathering with our closest friends last night. Myself being miraculously hangover free and fresh as a daisy started the day off with bacon sandwiches and then the wait began for hubby to feel human enough to leave the house. We originally wanted  to travel further afield and take our little dog to Bradgate Park in Leicestershire... however due to husband not recovering to well after 1pm we decided to visit the country park up the road from us called Hartshill Hayes.

I consider myself very lucky to live so close to such an incredible place. 137 acres of woodland with incredible views over North Warwickshire, and it is the most beautiful at this time of year with bluebells enthusiastically sprinkled over the ground. I visit on almost a weekly basis and its beauty is always breathtaking.

We walked about 3 miles, and it defiantly cleared a few cobwebs although we both have achy legs from choosing the uphill routes. I would recommend a Hartshill Hayes visit to anyone from the Midlands, especially if you have a dog.

Me. Craig and Bella

After our visit to Hartshill Hayes we jumped in the car and visited Bella's favourite shop - Pets at Home... she was desperately in need of a new collar.

Tonight is all about settling on the sofa with an Indian takeaway and a film. Praying for a chick flick

What do you like to do on Bank Holidays? What are you planning for the two Bank Holidays we have in May?
